Wembury to Heybrook Bay

Start your walk at Wembury Beach, where you can park at the National Trust car park (free for members) or use the pay-and-display beside the beach café. Alternatively, park in Wembury village and walk down to the coast to begin. Head west along the South West Coast Path, climbing gently from the beach with spectacular views of The Mewstone. The path is undulating, with stretches of grassy cliff, occasional muddy patches, and some narrow, uneven sections. After passing Wembury Point, the trail continues above the shoreline, offering panoramic sea views and glimpses across Plymouth Sound. Birdlife and coastal wildflowers are plentiful, especially in spring and summer. After around two miles, you’ll arrive at Heybrook Bay, a quiet spot with a shingle beach and the welcoming Eddystone Inn—a perfect place to pause for a drink or bite to eat. To return, simply retrace your steps along the same clifftop path, enjoying the different views as you walk eastward back to Wembury. This out-and-back walk is about 4 miles and takes 1.5 to 2 hours, offering a rewarding slice of South Devon coastline for walkers with moderate fitness.
