Heddon Valley to Heddon's Mouth

Tucked into a steep-sided valley on the edge of Exmoor, this short but rewarding walk follows the River Heddon through ancient woodland to the rugged coast. Starting at the historic Hunter’s Inn, the path winds gently beside the river, surrounded by oak trees, mossy rocks, and dappled glades alive with birdsong. As you near the sea, the landscape opens up to reveal towering cliffs and the wild, stony beach of Heddon’s Mouth — a peaceful spot often shared with only seabirds and the sound of waves. Keep an eye out for Exmoor ponies and butterflies in summer. Benches along the way offer places to pause and soak up the scenery. The route is well-maintained, with only gentle inclines, making it ideal for families or anyone wanting a taste of the wild without a strenuous hike.
