Exmouth to Budleigh Salterton

Starting from the lively seafront at Exmouth, this coastal walk follows a well-marked section of the South West Coast Path into a world of wild clifftop beauty. Climb past the striking Geoneedle at Orcombe Point, which marks the start of the Jurassic Coast UNESCO World Heritage Site, and trace the line of ancient red sandstone cliffs carved by time and tide. The route offers expansive sea views, open grasslands, and peaceful woodland stretches, with chances to spot kestrels, butterflies, and wildflowers in spring and summer. Descend into the welcoming town of Budleigh Salterton, known for its long pebble beach, river estuary, and traditional charm. This walk is ideal for a half-day adventure and can be done one way with a bus back. Start and finish: Exmouth seafront (near the Lifeboat Station).
